First interactive video conference with Chief Dog Driver of original Byrd Antarctic Expedition, who is returning to the Antarctic for his 101st Birthday

PLEASANTON, Calif. – Dec. 5, 2005 – Polycom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), the world’s leading provider of unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced the launch of its Polycom Video Conference Program Database, a free searchable content database for educators. Polycom, in partnership with Berrien County (Michigan) Intermediate School District (BCISD), will now offer educators worldwide access to more than 1,500 content providers, making available both ISDN- and IP-based video conferencing programs for the classroom. Updated daily, the database contains content opportunities from such organizations as Global Nomads Group, the Museum of Television and Radio, Cleveland Institute of Music and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, to name a few.

"Video conference technology expands the learning environment available to teachers by allowing students to learn interactively about new people, places and events," said Janine Lim, instructional technology consultant for BCISD. "The searchable database provides educators with information to sign up for these programs, including supportive lesson plans and complementary learning activities - truly providing interactive learning."

Educators are already taking advantage of programs available through the Polycom Video Conference Program Database. For example, on Dec. 8 and 9, K-12 students from across the United States will be connecting to two different programs. On Dec. 8, students will connect with Norman Vaughn, the former chief dog driver for the first Byrd Antarctic Expedition (1928-30). On Dec. 9, students will speak with Chris Sandy, a convicted DUI-Homicide offender who will be speaking about the potential life-changing implications of drinking and driving. These events are just two of the many programs provided through the Video Conference Program Database.

Norman Vaughn – Anchorage, Alaska
On Dec. 8, students will connect via video conference with Norman Vaughn in Anchorage, Alaska, to discuss his experiences on the first Byrd Antarctic Expedition and his passion to return to Antarctica for his 101st birthday. Norman was one of the first Americans to set foot in the interior of Antarctica and discovered land never seen before by man. It was the end of an era of dog exploration teams and the beginning of the aviation industry. Norman is the last surviving member of that 1930 expedition.

DUI – Homicide Inmate – Atlanta, Georgia
On Dec. 9, Chris Sandy, a convicted DUI-Homicide offender will be connecting with high school students via video conferencing from Paideia School in Atlanta. In April 2000, Sandy was found guilty on two counts of DUI – Vehicular Homicide and was sentenced to 13 years in Georgia State Prison. As of today, Sandy has served almost four and a half years in prison and will be released with law enforcement personnel for a few hours to share his story with students. He will talk about drinking and driving, the consequences of bad decisions, and life in prison.

"We wanted to develop a program that would offer free quality content to educators who rely on interactive video learning programs," said Russ Colbert, global education market director for Polycom. "Video conferencing enables our educators to teach with a blended learning approach, making interactive distance learning a reality without teachers needing to focus on the underlying technology."
